Recreational angling is an activity that offers an excellent opportunity to spend leisure time in nature, by the water, whether alone or with family and friends. Beyond the experience itself, it provides proven health benefits through recreation and, in some cases, the consumption of caught fish—bringing measurable societal and economic advantages. Angling is a diverse and officially recognized sport, serving as both a platform for youth development and a catalyst for innovation in the angling industry. Today, environmental awareness and sustainability play a central role in angling, and angling organizations are increasingly active in social engagement.
MOHOSZ (Hungarian National Anglers’ Association) is the country’s largest network-based civil organization, managing fishery resources and angling tourism on most state-owned natural water bodies, fulfilling 38 public duties, and serving as the national sport federation for angling. The association includes 1,200 organizations, oversees around 700 leased state-owned waters, and has over one million registered anglers. Thousands of competitions and 32 national championships mark the scope and success of its activities. As a member of the National Competitive Sport Federation, MOHOSZ contributes significantly to Hungary’s international sporting achievements. Last year alone, Hungarian national teams won 17 medals at world competitions, securing the country’s place among the top three nations in freshwater competitive angling globally.
Over the past eight years, Hungary has hosted 16 world and European championships, all of which received positive feedback from both the international governing bodies FIPSed and ICSF, and most importantly, the athletes themselves. The success of these events and Hungary’s renowned hospitality is evidenced by record-breaking participation numbers at several championships.
OTP Group is one of Central and Eastern Europe’s fastest-growing independent banking groups, serving 17 million customers across 11 countries with universal financial services. OTP is committed to delivering high-quality services through digital innovation, artificial intelligence, and data-driven insights. It operates as a driver of the region’s digital transformation by leveraging internal synergies and its regional hub, supported by 75 years of history. OTP places special emphasis on social responsibility and sustainable development, actively supporting the protection of the natural environment through its activities and sponsorship programs. The group’s dynamism also extends to the world of sport, backing a variety of successful clubs, prestigious national and international events, mass sports programs, and disciplines requiring physical and mental endurance, concentration, or precise teamwork.
As part of MOHOSZ’s recent renewal, a key focus was reforming and increasing the transparency and flexibility of the Team Hungary support system. Thanks to its successful implementation, 44 sponsors now support the organization of national championships and international representation. This growth in competition participation and sporting success played a major role in the signing of a new partnership between OTP Bank and MOHOSZ on May 6, 2025. Under this agreement, OTP Bank becomes the main sponsor of Hungarian angling sport. As a result, the 2025 national championships will carry the official title:
“MOHOSZ – OTP Bank Hungarian Championships.”
We firmly believe this partnership is destined for long-term success!
