On April 19, 2025, around 8:00 p.m., a small motorboat capsized under unclear circumstances near river kilometer 1630 on the Danube, in the Budafok-Tétény area of Budapest.
Five men were on board: three swam to shore, and one was rescued from the water by officers of the Budapest Police Headquarters’ Danube Water Police Department. According to available information, none of them were injured.
One person is still missing, and search efforts are ongoing both on land and water.
The wreckage of the boat was found and towed ashore by patrol units of the Water Police.
All individuals on the boat were taken in for sample collection. The boat’s operator, 34-year-old Bálint Gy., was questioned on suspicion of driving under the influence and has been taken into custody.
