National

From September 29 to October 5, the Week of Forests (Erdők Hete) will feature more than 100 programs organized by Hungary’s state forestry companies. This year, the event focuses on highlighting the role of forests in climate protection, particularly for young people, the Ministry of Agriculture (AM) announced on Monday.

The program lineup includes guided tours, field activities, playful competitions, forest concerts, sports events, open forest days, and various family programs. The event attracts a wide audience every year.

The 29th national Week of Forests aims to introduce the extraordinary richness of Hungary’s forests and their societal and national value to the broadest public. All activities are led by experienced foresters who share the wonders of their daily work with visitors.

Specific programs include:

  • Miskolc (Északerdő Zrt.): forest school activities, interactive demonstrations, and mushroom identification tours at the “Csanyiki Erdőház” Forestry Forest School.

  • Kecskemét: nature trail hikes, museum visits, and art exhibitions, with family-friendly events at the Kecskemét Arboretum.

  • Sopron (TAEG Study Forestry Management): mushroom identification programs at the Forest House Eco-Tourism Center and Wildlife Park.

  • Szolnok: “The World of Lowland Forests – Discovery Walk” for active participants.

  • Gyulaj Forestry and Hunting Ltd.: playful excursions for children to learn the role of water in sustaining plants and animals, at Lengyel-Annafürdő in Tolna County.

  • Debrecen (Nagyerdei Forestry Forest School): various field programs and educational presentations.

  • Oroszlány: dog beauty contests and meetups at the Mining Museum garden on October 4.

  • Visegrád (Madas László Forestry Forest School): programs teaching children how acorns can become furniture, hands-on experiences of foresters’ work, and playful “marking competitions.” At the Forest Culture House, kids can explore different forest regeneration methods using a scale model of a permanent forest.

The Ministry added that this year’s program guide is available on the websites and social media pages of the state forestry companies, as well as on the National Forestry Association’s channels, which coordinate the event.
