Europe

Three Hungarian diplomatic missions and two other Hungarian institutions have been sent letters from unknown sources threatening “bloodshed” if Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó makes a scheduled visit to Ukraine on Wednesday, the Hungarian embassy in Kiev told MTI.

The letters sent to the embassy, the Hungarian consulate general in Uzhhorod (Ungvár), the consulate and the Ferenc Rákóczi II Hungarian College of Transcarpathia in Berehove (Beregszász) and the Egan Ede Transcarpathian Business Development Centre were signed “Ukrainian patriots”, with the senders threatening to “take action” if Szijjártó visited the country. The letters accused Hungary of attempting to take territory away from Ukraine and warned their recipients to “prepare for heavy bloodshed” upon Szijjártó’s visit. The Hungarian embassy said it has filed a police report over the threats.
