At the online congress of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) on December 6, it is expected to give Budapest the organization of the 2024 Chess Olympics.

László Szabó, the president of the Hungarian Chess Association (MSSZ), indicated in September that the decision that FIDE would recommend the Hungarian capital as a host was made after the delegation of the organization visited Budapest. He added that it looks like the rival Argentine bid is invalid.

According to a survey of the end of the century – which researched the perception of chess among the Hungarian population – it turned out that 83.7 of the respondents agree that Hungary should host a chess Olympics. Respondents believe that the organization of the chess Olympics would have the greatest impact on tourism, domestic chess life and country image.

László Szabó told MTI: next Sunday, Santa Claus can bring the 2024 Chess Olympics to Budapest, the fifth largest sporting event in the world, which the Hungarian capital can organize just on the 100th anniversary of the founding of FIDE.

He emphasized that the Olympic champion, world champion silver medalist, two-time European champion Lajos Portisch, the Athlete of the Nation, and one of the biggest Hungarian chess players, Kata, who are the 14-year-old girls, will take part in the promotion of the Budapest Chess Olympics, including the pre-FIDE presentation. leads the world rankings.
The 46th Chess Olympics would be hosted by Hungexpo in October 2024, with an expected 3,500 participants.

The president of MSSZ stressed this would be the first 5G chess Olympics, which means a “massive and robust” online presence, real-time transmission with holograms. At the same time, they strive for a green arrangement, with plastic and paper-free service, for example, participants could ride bicycles between the hotel and the event venue. The holistic chess approach is also a novelty: the Hungarian association is planning artistic, scientific and cultural side events.
