The route of the perpetrator or perpetrators could be inferred from the broken glass: dozens of cars were damaged.
In Bérkocsis street and Tolnai Lajos street, car owners had an unpleasant Christmas surprise, as the windows of dozens of their cars were broken. According to an Index reader, their car was the only one on the street that escaped vandalism, because they parked in front of the Józsefváros Municipality, right next to the surveillance camera. The path of the perpetrator or perpetrators could be traced by looking at the broken glass: before they turned onto Tolnai Lajos street, they vandalized parked cars on Bérkocsis street; here the right side windows of the vehicles fell victim.
In response to Index’s inquiry, the Budapest Police Headquarters (BRFK) stated that the Józsefváros investigators identified a 12- and 13-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl in connection with the commission of the crime. They were arrested by the Budapest police on December 24th, 2022 at around 3:00 p.m. in Nyugati square, and taken in the VIII. District Police Station. The investigators interrogated the 14-year-old girl as a suspect due to the well-founded suspicion of 36 counts of misdemeanor vandalism causing minor damage, and she is defending herself in the proceedings.
