Grammy-winning singer and Oscar-winning actor Will Smith will perform at Budapest Park on August 14, the organizers announced on Friday through MTI.
According to the announcement, the world-famous artist recently revealed his summer tour titled Based on a True Story, which now includes a stop in Budapest. The concert tour celebrates his new album of the same name, released last Friday after a twenty-year hiatus.
The show will feature tracks from the Based on a True Story album, along with major hits like Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It, Miami, and Summertime.
The recently released 14-track album features several star guests, including DJ Jazzy Jeff, Teyana Taylor, Jac Ross, and Fridayy. The album includes previously released singles like First Love, Beautiful Scars, Tantrum, Work of Art, and You Can Make It—the latter being Smith’s first chart-topping hit since Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It, and it simultaneously topped both rap and gospel charts. He premiered this song at last year’s BET Awards, performing it in the middle of a fiery ring of flames.
Smith also performed at the Grammy Awards this past February, where he paid tribute to his mentor, the late Quincy Jones, as recalled in the announcement.
On his first solo tour, Based on a True Story, Smith will visit Morocco, as well as major cities across Europe and the United Kingdom, in addition to performing at several international festivals.
The 56-year-old Will Smith won two Grammy Awards in the rap category as part of DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince for Parents Just Don’t Understand in 1989 and Summertime in 1992. He began his solo career in the late 90s, releasing chart-topping hits like Men in Black and Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It, as well as albums like Big Willie Style (1997) and Willennium (1999), solidifying his place in the music industry.
However, Smith is primarily known as a film actor and producer, earning prestigious awards such as the Oscar, Golden Globe, and BAFTA. He has starred in numerous successful films, including Independence Day (1996), Men in Black (1997), Ali (2001), The Pursuit of Happyness (2006), I Am Legend (2007), and King Richard (2021). He is also successful as a businessman and bestselling author.
The Hollywood star will perform in Budapest for the second time on August 14, having previously held a major birthday celebration in front of St. Stephen’s Basilica in September 2019.
