Wizz Air will increase the frequency of its flights between Brașov and Budapest starting at the end of October, the Brașov-Ghimbav International Airport announced on Wednesday.
According to a post on the airport’s Facebook page, the low-cost airline will operate flights four times a week from October 26—up from the current three weekly connections—adding Sunday to the existing Monday, Wednesday, and Friday schedule.
Wizz Air launched the Budapest–Brașov route on July 2, 2024. According to local media, the flights have had a load factor of over 80 percent.
Brașov Airport has seen rapid growth: according to January statistics from the Romanian Airports Association, it has doubled its passenger numbers in just one year and has surpassed the airports in Târgu Mureș and Oradea in traffic.
Brașov-Ghimbav International Airport, which opened in June 2023, is the first greenfield airport project in Romania after the fall of communism. Its development was supported by local governments in Székely Land (Szeklerland), who emphasized that the airport connects the predominantly Hungarian-speaking region to international transport networks.
