Moon and stars come closer to Debrecen

Culture Local News

Amateur astronomers brought the moon and the stars closer to Debrecen last weekend. The Magnitúdó Csillagászati Egyesület (an association of astronomers) celebrated its 4oth year of existence in front of the yellow church.

Anyone could see the craters of the moon or the Venus through their telescopes. During the last 40 years a lot of Debrecen citizens got to know the secrets of the skies with the help of the association. “These telescope displays present the sky, the planets and our moon to the public, too. Over the last 40 years, we’ve organized displays like this one many times and helped around 100.000 people to have an encounter with astronomy through them.” – explained György Zajácz, head of the association. The association organizes similar demonstrations in Hortobágy as well and holds classes in Újkerti Közösségi Ház on Thursdays.
